Activity Area & Bin Sorting

Activity Area: Logical grouping of storage bins. These storage bins are of same storage type or multiple storage types

Storage bins are further categorized in this activity area. It includes activities like picking, put away or a physical inventory. As per the activity, you can assign the same storage bin to multiple activity areas.

SPRO- EWM- Master data -Activity Areas - Define Activities

Warehouse Process Category is mandatory for creating new warehouse activity

You cannot add new WPT in the system or neither can delete the existing ones.

We have created new Activity RKAA.

Now goto Define Activity Area- New Activity area AA01 created.

When we generate AA with report, new activity area will be generated with the name of storage type and it will be assigned to the storage type. The Sort sequence for storage bins will also be maintained wrt to that AA and storage type

Storage bin sorting will be maintained with reference to Activity Area and Activity.

We have to run a Bin Sorting report /SCWM/SBST-  sort storage bins

For Storage type RK01 & RK02

Activity Created:

  • RKAA - Putaway
  • RKAR - Stock Removal

Activity Area:

  •  AA01 - Putaway
  • AA02- Stock Removal
Sort Storage bin report will sort according to Identifiers (Aisle, Stack, level) given.
WNO: HSWM
Activity Area: RK01
Activity: PTWY - putaway

/SCWM/SRTUP- Load Storage bin Sorting

Bin Sorting: it is a common practice not a one time activity.

Staging Area Groups, Staging Areas, Door:

Staging areas are used for temporary storage of goods before GR or after GI in the warehouse. They are located in close proximity to the doors assigned to them.

You can group multiple staging areas into Staging area groups. The staging area group corresponds to a storage type (storage type role “D”), while the staging area corresponds to a storage section. You can divide each staging area into one or more storage bins. You need multiple storage bins, for example, if you want to define a loading sequence.

You define staging areas in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) under Master Data ® Staging Areas ® Define Staging Areas.

Staging Area/ Door determination Group: This is a small mechanism to divert our products into respective GR staging areas.

Warehouse Door:  Master Data - Warehouse Door

As per loading direction, we can decide if we want Inbound and Outbound door or if we want to use one door for both inbound and outbound activities. We can also define Default Staging area Group while specifying door. We have created below Doors:

  • IND1 - Inbound Door
  • IND2- Inbound Door 2
  • OTD1 - Outbound Door 1
  • OTD2- Outbound Door 2
We assign Staging Area/Door Det to Doors.

IND1, OTD1 ---- SAD1
IND2, OTD2 ---- SAD2

Now Assign Staging Area & Staging Area Group to the Door.

Staging Area/ Door Det is assigned in Product Master, with reference to which door is determined.
